Ca. 1924 Best "Thirty"
Manufactured by the C.L. Best Gas Traction Co., San Leandro, Ca.
The Best family had been producing steam traction engines since the late 1880s. The company's founder, Daniel Best, sold out to his competitor, Holt, in 1908. Daniel's son, Charles, reorganized in 1910 and began manufacturing gas traction equipment. This model was introduced in 1921. Best built all of their own components except for the carburetor and magneto. In April of 1925, Best and Holt merged once again to form the Caterpillar Tractor Co. The relabeled "Caterpillar Thirty" was sold through 1931.
Donated to the Museum by the Von Seggern Family, Escondido, Ca.
