1942 International Harvester I-6
Manufactured by the International Harvester Company, Chicago, Illinois. Serial # IBK2544Y15. The I-6 was the industrial version of the International 6 series tractor. It uses an International engine, with a 3 7/8" x 5 1/2" bore and stroke that develops 39 horsepower at 1,450 rpm. This is the same engine that is used in the Farmall M, O-6, and W-6 tractors. The I-6 featured slightly higher working speeds than the W-type tractors in addition to a foot throttle and spring mounted pintle hitch. International offered an industrial line of tractors that included the I-4, I-6, ID-6, I-9, and ID-9. This line was offered up into 1952. Industrial tractors were well suited for a variety of jobs in construction, maintenance, materials handling, and transportation.
This particular I-6 was produced during World War II and became part of the war effort. Even now, it still has traces of the original olive drab paint under the newer layers of paint. After the war, it was sold as surplus and eventually made its way to a farm in Vista. Among the unusual features of this tractor is its dual rear wheel configuration. This tractor was originally equipped with a front-end loader (which sadly has been lost).
Owned by Mike Fraser, Oceanside, Ca.
