A second John Deere was tested by the University of Nebraska in 1940. The Model D
uses a John Deere, two-cylinder, horizontal, I-head engine with a 6 3/4" x 7" bore and
stroke. At a rated speed of 900 rpm, the D produced 34 1/2 drawbar and 40.24 brake horsepower.
The LA was manufactured by the John Deere
Wagon Works, Moline, Illinois. The LA was produced from 1941 to 1946. It features a John
Deere two-cylinder, vertical engine with a 3 1/2" x 4" bore and stroke. The tractor develops
10.62 drawbar and 14.34 belt horsepower at a rated speed of 1,850 rpm. The bare weight of this
model tractor is 2,285 pounds.
